Here is how we work with you to schedule a class that meets your needs:
A first step in working with our customers is to help them determine whether their need falls into the "professional rescuer," "certified lay responder “or” lay responder" level of training.
The first aid programs intended primarily for the professional rescuer (e.g., police, firefighter, lifeguard, and emergency response team member) include:
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer
The first aid programs intended primarily for the certified lay responder (i.e., for any individual who wants to learn lifesaving skills or whose job requires him or her to be trained and certified in first aid and CPR, but who is not a professional rescuer) include:
- First Aid/CPR/AED
- Bloodborne Pathogens
- Sport Safety Training
The first aid courses intended for the lay person or lay responder (i.e., personal interest but no job-related need or requirement-those who want to learn lifesaving skills, but do not want or need to receive certification) include:
- Babysitter’s Training
- First Aid for Children Today (FACT)
Basic Aid Training (BAT)
The American Red Cross and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) signed an Alliance agreement geared towards preparing employers and their employees to respond to disasters, life-threatening injuries and other emergencies.
Through this agreement, the Red Cross and OSHA provide information, guidance and access to training resources on health and safety topics including first aid, emergency preparedness and disease prevention in the workplace. You can learn more about interpreting and complying with
OSHA standards with information, such as:
- OSHA requirements for onsite medical assistance during an emergency.
- OSHA requirements related to bloodborne pathogens training.
- OSHA requirements pertaining to emergency preparedness.
- Training the Red Cross can provide to help a company meet OSHA requirements.
Please contact Leigh Warren, Health & Community Services Manager, at 334-749-9981 or email her to schedule training or for more information.

Automated External Defibrillators AED
Access to AEDs could save 50,000 lives each year
The mission of the American Red Cross AED Program is to promote and encourage public access to automated external defibrillators (AEDs)-small devices that can save lives in the event of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). Cardiac Arrest strikes people of all ages and fitness levels, usually without warning. Many of these lives could be saved if bystanders act promptly to phone 911 and begin CPR, and if trained responders provide defibrillation within minutes.
The Lee County Red Cross Chapter is a facilitator for these nationally approved manufacturers of AEDs:
OSHA encourages employers to provide AEDs in the workplace
